WAILUKU, Maui — An Army Reserve unit in California will hold a ceremony tomorrow to rename its headquarters in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Kelly Bolor, a native of Lahaina, Maui, who was killed Nov. 15, 2003, when two Black Hawk helicopters collided in Iraq.
The suggestion to rename the headquarters of the 137th Quartermaster Company in South El Monte, Calif., the "Kelly Bolor Hall" was made by the 102 reservists in his unit when they returned home in March 2004, Capt. Gustavo Murillo said.
Bolor, 37, was "gregarious, happy and always playing the 'ukulele," he said.
A 1984 graduate of Lahainaluna High School, Bolor also served with his unit in the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
Sgt. Edgar Robles, who served with Bolor both times, said he admired Bolor for his supportive nature. "That's the way he is with his soldiers," Robles said. "He's like a father figure."
