Australians dominate at Honu triathlon

Australia's Chris McCormack, in his first Ford Ironman 70.3 Honu, defeated defending champion Chris Hauth by more than six minutes in the triathlon yesterday at Kohala, Hawai'i.
Michellie Jones, also of Australia, successfully defended her women's title, winning by more than 20 minutes.
McCormack, 33, a seven-time Ironman champion, finished in 4 hours, 3 minutes, 18 seconds. Hauth was second in 4:09:35 and James Cotter third in 4:11:16. Tim Marr of Mililani was fourth in 4:13:56.
After finishing ninth in the swim, McCormack took the lead in the bike ride in mile 5.
Jones, 36, who won last year's inaugural Honu, finished in 4:29:06. Honolulu's Rachel Ross was second in 4:50:07, followed by Jennifer Johnson in 4:54:21 and Amber Monforte in 4:59:53. Kailua's Amy Bennett was fifth in 5:03:05.
More than 850 athletes, ages 21 to 79, started the race that included a 1.2-mile swim at Hapuna Beach Park, 56-mile bike along the Kohala Coast and 13.1-mile run within the Mauna Lani Resort.
The race serves as a qualifying event for the Ford Ironman World Championship on Oct. 21 at Kailua, Kona, and the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 on Nov. 11 in Clearwater, Fla.

ANTHONY CARTER, JAMIE DIXON FEATURED AT UH
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Carter and University of Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon will be featured guest speakers at the Rainbow Boys and Girls Basketball Camp.
The camp — for ages 5 to 17 — has two sessions: Friday to Sunday and June 12 to 14 at the University of Hawai'i.
Carter, a two-year starter for the Rainbow Warriors, is in his second year with Minnesota and sixth in the NBA. He will accompany Sonne Barrie, a 12-year-old from Brooklyn Park, Minn., who won an essay contest to attend the camp in conjunction with the Minnesota D.A.R.E. program.
Dixon guided Pitt to a 25-8 record and NCAA Tournament appearance this past season, his third with the Panthers. He spent five seasons as an assistant to UH head coach Riley Wallace during the 1990s.

CHANG, IKEI WILL TEAM FOR FOOTBALL SESSIONS
The Power 4 Sports Football Camp for ages 8 to 18 is scheduled for July 7 to 9 at Kaiser High School.
The camp features former University of Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang and Chad Ikei, a former world weightlifting champion from Hawai'i.
Chang recently completed his first season playing for the Rhein Fire in the NFL Europe. Ikei is director of Ikei Sports Performance.
Cost is $45 for July 7 (ages 8 to 13) and $80 for July 8 and 9 (ages 14 to 18).

EX-WARRIOR ALLEN HOSTS VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CAMP
Allen Allen Volleyball Club is holding its third annual Volleyball Skills Camp, July 25 and 26 at King Intermediate School gym in Kane'ohe.
The camps are 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for boys and girls, sixth grade and younger and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for seventh grade and older.
Cost is $65.
Allen is a former Castle High, University of Hawai'i and professional beach volleyball player.
