Kaua'i's Watabu drops to 42nd at NCAA golf

University of Nevada golfer Casey Watabu of Kaua'i shot a 3-over-par 75 and dropped into a tie for 42nd after the second round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship yesterday at Sunriver, Ore.
Watabu, a Kaua'i High alum, was tied for 15th after a first-round 70. The tournament concludes today at the Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Golf Course.
Washington leads the tournament with a 563. Arizona and Wake Forest are tied for second at 566. Nevada shot 590.
Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers, after a 65 Wednesday, shot a 70 yesterday and leads at 135. Four golfers are at 138.
Loyola Marymount's Chaz Inouye, a St. Anthony alum, shot an 81 for a 154 and was tied for 138th in the 156-player field.
RIFLERY
PUNAHOU GOLD WINS
The Punahou Gold team of seniors Heather Horn, Simone Riford and Jon Onaga and sophomore Davin Lee won the Junior Sporter Air Rifle 3-Position title in the National Rifle Association's Indoor National Shooting Championships, the NRA announced.
Punahou Gold edged perennial champions the Homestead 4-H team from Nebraska in a tiebreaker. Both teams scored 2084 points, but Punahou Gold prevailed by shooting 354 bull's-eyes compared to 334 by the Nebraska team. Scores were compiled from sectional meets across the country.
Ninety-six teams representing the top 546 high school, club and JROTC marksmen competed.
Punahou Gold also captured the National Scholastic Team Championship in Junior 3-Position Smallbore Rifle competition. Horn, Riford and Onaga were joined on the firing line by senior Robert Siko for the .22 caliber match in which 874 top junior marksmen participated.
Saint Louis junior Michio Koide earned a special Silver Medallion as the National JROTC Champion in the Junior 3-Position Smallbore Rifle match. Koide claimed a second Silver Medallion and title as the National JROTC Champion in the Junior 4-position Championship.
FOOTBALL
WAIALUA HOSTS CAMP
The NFL and Waialua High School will host a free five-day football camp for youths 12 to 14 years old from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. from Monday to next Friday.
A parent or guardian of each participant must complete a medical waiver/physical information form and bring the child's birth certificate for the participant to be eligible.
The forms must be turned in to the Waialua High School main office by Monday afternoon; the first 180 will be accepted. The forms are available at the main office and at www.waipahuhigh.k12.hi.us (click "Athletics").
Each participant will receive a free NFL practice jersey, football and bag. The camp includes full-gear, full-contact workouts, so players can be fitted for their proper sizes from 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Waialua's Toshi Nakasone Field.

SPEED AND QUICKNESS
LAST SPRING SESSIONS
The Hawai'i Speed and Quickness clinic will conduct its final sessions of the spring term tomorrow and Sunday at the University of Hawai'i athletic complex.
Each session is $10, and participants receive training in plyometrics and resistance workouts, and coupons from Jamba Juice, Papa John's Pizza and Subway.
Sessions are 8:30 to 10 a.m. for ages 7-12, and 10:30 a.m. to noon for those 13 and older.
