National golfing honor for two

Puget Sound (Tacoma, Wash.) junior Emily Lau, a 2003 Iolani graduate, and Willamette (Salem, Ore.) freshman Whitney Ueno, a 2005 Hilo alum, were named National Golf Coaches Association Division III Region V award winners.

Portland State freshman Kayla Morinaga (Sacred Hearts '05 of Waipahu) was named to the Big Sky Conference Spring All-Academic team. Morinaga is an economics major.
MEN'S GOLF
Pacific (Stockton, Calif.) sophomore Andrew Llarenas (Iolani of Kane'ohe) was presented the team's Dr. Henry Zastrow Academic Achievement award.
Llarenas, a business administration major, had the team's highest grade point average.
FOOTBALL
Portland State junior offensive guard Brennan Carvalho (Kamehameha '04 of Kapa'a) was named to the Big Sky Conference preseason all-conference team.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore Rebecca DeLiberto (Maui High of Kihei) was named to the 2005-06 Skyline Conference All-Academic Team.
Liberto is a biomedical engineering major.Men's Water Polo
Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) junior utility Tim Brown (Iolani '03 of Kane'ohe) was named an American Water Polo Coaches Association First Team Division III All-American.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Quincy (Ill.) sophomore libero Mike Contee (Iolani of 'Aiea) was named to the 2005-06 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Academic All-Conference team.
COMMITMENTS
Kailua High's Sydney Kaneshiro signed with Missouri Valley College to play softball, according to her mother, Paula.
Karla Tailele, a 2004 Kahuku graduate, will play women's basketball for Division II Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., according to the school's Web site.
Tailele played for Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) the past two seasons.
"Karla is a true point guard, but she has a nice shot from 3-point range which will allow her to play the two guard as well for us this season," coach Ron McHenry said in a release.
