Gas cap increase set at 5 cents

The state Public Utilities Commission yesterday announced that the maximum wholesale price for gasoline will rise 5 cents a gallon next week to $2.07 on O'ahu.
That price, which excludes taxes and a dealer margin, is set each week under Hawai'i's wholesale price cap law. The cap sets a ceiling on what wholesalers can charge for gasoline, but allows retailers to charge whatever prices they choose.
A&B GROUP GAVE NONPROFITS $2M
The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation last year donated more than $2 million to 493 nonprofit organizations.
Most of the money, $1.7 million, went to 312 nonprofit organizations in Hawai'i and around the Pacific. The foundation, funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin and its subsidiaries, donated an additional $411,000 to charities on the Mainland.
Alexander & Baldwin subsidiaries include, Matson Navigation Co. and A&B Properties Inc., Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co., East Maui Irrigation Co., Kahului Trucking & Storage and A&B Wailea LLC.
FINANCIAL CLIENTS' DATA STOLEN
MINNEAPOLIS — Ameriprise Financial Inc. said yesterday it has notified about 226,000 people that their names and other personal data were stored on a laptop computer that was stolen from an employee's vehicle.
Ameriprise said it has alerted 68,000 current and former financial advisers whose names and Social Security numbers were also stored on the same computer. About 158,000 clients had only their names and internal account numbers exposed.
MICROSOFT LETTING RIVALS SEE CODE
BRUSSELS, Belgium — Under threat of daily fines by European Union antitrust regulators, Microsoft Corp. agreed yesterday to let competitors examine some of the blueprints to its flagship Windows operating system.
Microsoft said it would offer commercial rivals access to a "pretty significant" chunk of the source code governing communications between servers. The code is from its Windows workgroup server and desktop operating systems.
