17-year-old Nanakuli boy reports kidnap, sex assault

Police were looking for four men wanted for an alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 17-year-old boy Friday night in Nanakuli.

The teen was standing outside the Nanakuli High School gym Friday night during the Wai'anae-Nanakuli OIA boys basketball game when he was forced into a van containing the driver and three other men at 7:30 p.m., police said. The victim told police he was tied up with plastic restraints and sexually assaulted while being driven around.

The boy, a Nanakuli High School student, told police the men drove him back to the school and dropped him off. There was no description of the suspects.

"We're just hoping someone recognizes the van," said Ho-nolulu Police Department Sgt. Kim Capllonch.

The vehicle was described as a cargo-type van, with no windows and having a dent and missing paint under the sliding door handle.

Nanakuli High School principal Levi Chang said teachers and administrators are warning students to be wary of unfamiliar vehicles in the area.

Chang said the school will be stepping up security during basketball games. Guards will patrol the parking lot and secluded areas outside of the gym. Currently, a uniformed police officer sits inside the gym during games, he said, and several security guards watch the gym's perimeter. Friday's varsity game between Nanakuli and Wai'anae drew more than 300 people.

"We keep an eye out for (unusual) cars and vans in our community," Chang said. "We just tell our kids to watch out."
