Five men indicted in July lumber theft

An O'ahu grand jury has indicted five men on charges they stole more than $40,000 worth of lumber from the Pictures Plus storage lot in July.

Curtis Worsham, Wiltron Ramos, Paul Pruse Jr., David Botelho and Joseph Mason were each charged with one count of first-degree theft. Worsham also was charged with one count of second-degree theft and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. Pruse was also charged with second-degree theft.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Ramos, $11,000 for Worsham, and $20,000 for Mason and Botelho. Pruse was placed on supervised release, according to the Hono-lulu prosecutor's office.

The five are accused of stealing maple veneer lumber valued at $40,240 from Pictures Plus' Hanua Street lot in Campbell Industrial Park on July 20. The company specializes in custom framing and framed artwork.

Worsham and Ramos are accused of driving a stolen semi-truck to the lot and using a bolt cutter to enter the facility. Worsham then backed the truck up to a flat bed that was loaded with the wood and attached the trailer to the truck, according to a police affidavit filed in District Court.

Police said the theft was recorded by a surveillance camera at the lot.

Ramos and Worsham drove to a lot on Hakimo Road in Nana-kuli, dropped off the lumber, and then Worsham abandoned the semi-truck on Leokane Street in Waipahu, the affidavit said.

An investigation led police to Ramos, 39, who was arrested on Sept. 6. Police said Ramos then identified Worsham as the second person involved in the theft. Worsham, 35, was arrested on Nov. 10 after a nearly five-hour standoff with police in Waialua.
