Local McDonald’s pours organic tea

Advertiser Staff

McDonald's customers in Hawai'i can now wash down their burgers and fries with a new beverage on the menu: organic green tea.

McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii yesterday announced it is replacing its generic hot tea with certified organic green tea produced by Hawaiian Islands Tea Co.

The new beverage, offered in all 76 restaurants statewide, is the latest menu item that can be found only in Hawai'i McDonald's. Other Hawai'i-only items on the menu include Portuguese sausage, Spam, saimin, and fruit punch.

"The green-tea flavor is popular throughout the Islands, so it seems only natural to have it as a part of the McDonald's Hawai'i menu," said Melanie Okazaki, marketing manager of McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii.

Hawaiian Islands Tea Co. also provides iced tea to McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii.

McDonald's said the organic green tea is inspected to assure the tea is 100 percent organic and complies with U.S. Department of Agriculture organic standards.
