TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Bachelor: Paris" season opener, 9 p.m., ABC. After hurting "Bachelor" with overexposure, ABC gave it a rest. The show returns with an impressive location (Paris) and bachelor (Dr. Travis Stork). He's 33 and is an emergency-room physician at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He's also 6-feet-4 and extremely handsome. ABC has tried to upgrade the career levels of the 25 women. Two of the women are doctors and one is a law clerk. There's also, of course, a model and an NBA dancer. There's a remarkably beautiful redhead, 23, who's a San Diego sales clerk. There's also a 23-year-old student from Winnipeg, Manitoba, a bubbly sort who seems to catch Stork's attention. Maybe this "Bachelor" will make a lasting match. Maybe, like the previous ones, it will just be a bright-but-fleeting diversion.

OF NOTE

"For the Love of a Child," 7 p.m., Lifetime. This movie offers a loving look at the group called Childhelp USA. It flashes back to 1959 when Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were young performers singing to troops in Tokyo. They were stunned to find half-American orphans on the streets. It also tells a modern story, involving abusive parents. Peri Gilpin and Teri Polo star in a moderately well-made film.

"How I Met Your Mother," 7:30 p.m., CBS. Robin agrees to go to a wedding with Ted — who promptly runs into a problem.

"Wildfire," 8 p.m., ABC Family. Kris, the new jockey, is quickly becoming famous. Tonight, she and her horse are up for a commercial in an episode that gets too soapy but still has some appeal.

"Two and a Half Men," 8 p.m., CBS. Charlie asks a psychiatrist about his brother's problems.

"Emily's Reasons Why Not," 8 p.m., ABC. This show tries to capture the slick look and the sharp wit of "Sex and the City." It only gets the first part right. Heather Graham plays an editor of self-help books who needs romantic help herself. The people and the Manhattan settings are gorgeous. The first script — which seeks to find flaws in a seemingly perfect guy — is fairly witless.

"Jake in Progress" season opener, 8:30 p.m., ABC. This show fits neatly with "Emily." It looks great and has inconsistent scripts. Jake (John Stamos) is visited by his former girlfriend (Charlotte Ross). Meanwhile, his boss (Wendie Malick) is a grumpy new mom.

"Country Boys" debut, 9 p.m., PBS. David Sutherland's slow-but-involving "The Farmer's Wife" was a deep portrait of one Nebraska family. This time, he gives the same focus to two teens in the Appalachian hills of eastern Kentucky. They're likable guys in an area with little economic promise. This is part one of three.
