Hawai'i's Wade on Pacific's coach list

University of Hawai'i women's volleyball associate head coach Charlie Wade is a candidate for the vacant University of Pacific women's head coaching job.
Wade, 42, is on a short list of candidates that includes University of Nebraska assistant Lee Maes, and one or more individuals who previously played or coached at Pacific, according to The Record newspaper, which covers the Stockton area.
"I've always said I will listen to any opportunity," said Wade, who met with Pacific athletic director Lynn King during the NCAA final four in San Antonio last month. "Like anyone, you're always looking for a situation that's going to be the best for you and your family."
Wade has been an assistant on UH coach Dave Shoji's staff for 11 years, the last six as associate head coach. As Shoji's top assistant, Wade has been considered for several head coaching jobs in the past, including the University of Washington. Last year, Wade turned down the Fresno State women's volleyball head coaching position.
Wade filled in as UH interim coach in 2004 and went 3-0 when Shoji attended to a family matter.
Wade is UH's primary recruiter, and also breaks down film, produces scouting reports and provides technical training during practices. Wade is married, and has one son.
The Pacific job became open when coach Jayne McHugh was offered reassignment Nov. 30 after the Tigers failed to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in the program's 31-year history, The Record reported.

HPU'S PECIUKAS GETS PACWEST HONOR
Hawai'i Pacific center Audrius Peciukas has been named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Sea Warriors to a 2-1 record last week.
The 6-foot-9 senior averaged 20 points and 8.7 rebounds, and recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds against Morningside College.

PUNAHOU'S BARBOSA IS FAR WEST TOP COACH
Punahou girls soccer coach Jorge Barbosa was selected as the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Girls High School Far West Regional Coach of the Year for private/parochial schools.
Last February, Barbosa coached the Buffanblu to their third straight state championship.
