Honolulu Theatre for Youth jumps into 2006 with a production of "Mulan: The Woman Warrior." Comedy and Chinese opera take the stage during the world premiere of this Chinese legend about a young woman who impersonates a man and goes to war. Emily Tam, Chi Ho Law and Junior Tesoro star; Harry Wong III directs. The play is recommended for ages 5 and older. Tickets are $16 general and $8 ages 3-18 and 60 and older.

The Hot Soul Music Jam features the R&B stylings of Keith Sweat, Midnight Star and Zapp. Sweat is best known for sultry hits such as “Make You Sweat” and “Twisted,” while Zapp churns out the funky tunes like “More Bounce to the Ounce” and “Dance Floor.” Midnight Star’s claims to fame include “Freak-A-Zoid” and “Operator.” Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40, $45 and $55.

DJ/producer Dieselboy, host of Philadelphia’s long-running Platinum weekly event, brings his drum-n-bass sounds back to Ho-nolulu (he was last here in June 2004). Also performing: IKON, G-Spot, Sovern-T, DJ Betty and others. Admission is $15 and $20; for 18 and older.

Considered the "Irish music dream team" by Folk Roots magazine, the contemporary Celtic-folk band Lœnasa brings it inventive acoustic sounds to celebrate the release of its new album "Sé" (pronounced Shay). The group is named for the festival that honors the Irish god Lugh, patron of the arts. Tickets are $23 general, $19 students, seniors and military.
