School plans parent workshop

'Aiea High School's Community Council is sponsoring a workshop tonight designed to help parents identify the abilities of their children to develop strategies for learning at home.
The workshop, from 6 to 8 p.m., is geared for students eighth grade and above, said 'Aiea High's parent facilitator, Margie Sakaue.
Parents and their children are welcomed to attend.
A light dinner will be served but an RSVP by noon today is required. To RSVP, call 483-7300.
BUY A CAR, HELP STUDENT PROGRAM
Cutter Ford/Isuzu in 'Aiea will donate $100 for every new car or truck sold on Saturday and Sunday to Pearl City High School Project Graduation 2006.
The Project Grad group also will be selling waffle hot dogs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days.
The dealership is at 98-015 Kamehameha Highway.

EXHIBIT HONORS HAWAI'I FILIPINOS
"The Philippines ... to the Plantations and Beyond," a new exhibit honoring the 100th anniversary of Filipinos in Hawai'i, is open to public viewing at Hawai'i's Plantation Village's Goro Arakawa Exhibit Room Mondays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission and parking are free. The exhibit at 94-695 Waipahu St. will be on display through the end of the year.
Also featured is a tribute to the all-Filipino regiments in the U.S. military and a display of prominent Filipinos who have made their mark in Hawai'i.

LIBRARY TO HOST MARDI GRAS PARTY
Wahiawa Public Library is hosting a free Mardi Gras celebration, featuring a mask/hat making workshop and line dancing instruction by James Shimokusa, on Feb. 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
There will be door prizes and light refreshments. The event is suitable for all ages.

STORYTELLER OFFERS KIDS' PROGRAM
Storyteller/balladeer James McCarthy will be featured Feb. 23 in a free 45-minute children's program at Kapolei Public Library, which recently received a donation of books from Castle & Cooke Hawai'i.
The 10 a.m. program in the Children's Room is for ages 3 to adult.

O'AHU
NOMINEES SOUGHT FOR LEADER AWARD
The YWCA of O'ahu is accepting nominations for the third annual Young Leader award to recognize "ordinary girls who do extraordinary things."
Nominees should be ages 16 to 19, female and living on O'ahu. Honorees receive cash scholarship awards up to $1,500. The award honors young women for their leadership, achievements and their excellence as role models.
Nominations forms may be obtained by calling the YWCA at 538-7061, extension 221 or by visiting www.ywcaoahu.org. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 28.
MANOA
TOWN MEETING TO BE HELD SATURDAY
Manoa lawmakers will hold a legislative town meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Noelani Elementary School library, 2566 Woodlawn Drive.
Sen. Brian Taniguchi, Rep. Kirk Caldwell and City Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi are hosting the event to give an update on issues, including the Lyon Arboretum, and hear community concerns.
