Hawai'i Pacific softball team sweeps

Jessica Adolph, whose two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh sent the game into extra innings, hit an RBI double with two outs in the ninth as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 5-4, to complete a doubleheader sweep at Sea Warrior Field yesterday.

Sophomore Dayna Berry, who pitched a four-hitter in a 4-0 victory in the opener, worked an inning of relief in the second game to earn the victory and improve to 4-0.

Nicole Kalakau hit a two-run homer for HPU (5-1) in the second game, while Casey Stephenson hit a three-run homer for CSS (11-3).

In the opener, Dayna hit a two-run homer and struck out three in working the seven-inning distance.

Elsewhere, Leo Sing Chow pitched a one-hitter and Chelsea Osborne batted 4 for 4 as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Grand Canyon, 7-0, yesterday in Phoenix, Ariz.

Later, Cindy Perry and Pebble Prestwood each had three hits as Cal State Dominguez Hills beat Hilo, 7-0. Haunani Haasenritter had two hits for Hilo (1-3).


WATER POLO

UH WAHINE FINISH FIFTH

Kelly Mason scored four goals as the fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team swamped San Jose State, 12-5, to finish fifth at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.

All-America goalie Meike De Nooy had 12 saves for the Rainbow Wahine (3-3).

Earlier in the day, Mason and Kristy Bagnall each had three goals as UH beat No. 6 California, 8-7, in the final pool play match.


BASEBALL

HAWAI'I-HILO FALLS, 9-2

Josh Workman hit a solo homer and sacrifice fly, and Matt Brown batted 4 for 5 as Wichita State defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 9-2, yesterday in a non-conference series finale at Simmons Field in Kailua, Kona.

Kenny Waddell and Damon Sublett each had three hits for the Shockers (4-1).

Mark Veneri batted 2 for 4, including a solo homer, and Tyler Curtis also had two hits for the Vulcans (2-8).

UH WAHINE SET MARKS

Four members of the University of Hawai'i women's track and field team set school records over the weekend at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.

The record-setters were:

Senior Novelle Murray with 61 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the weight toss, bettering her own mark of 56-1.

Junior Patricia Gauthier with 12 feet, 5 inches in the pole vault, bettering her own mark of 12-3 1/2.

Junior Michel Wilson with 18:48.62 in the 5,000-meter run, bettering her own mark of 19:07.22.

Freshman Emily Sheppard with 5 feet, 7 inches in the high jump, bettering her own mark of 5-5 1/4.
