UH's Hamamoto a shot off lead

University of Hawai'i senior Jarett Hamamoto shot a 6-under-par 65 yesterday and was one stroke off the lead in the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate golf tournament at the Waikoloa Village course on the Big Island.
Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin opened with 32-32—64 to lead the 105-player field.
Hamamoto is tied with Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech, which leads the team competition after an aggregate score of 16-under 268.
Colorado's Edward McGlasson, Oklahoma's Justin Fraley and Oregon State's Alex Williams are tied for fourth at 66.
UH-Hilo's top scorer, Colin Gilliam, is in a 13-way tie for 21st along with UH-Manoa's Travis Toyama at 69.
Oklahoma State is second in the team competition at 272, followed by Southern California (274) and UH-Manoa (275). Host UH-Hilo is tied for 19th in the 21-school field with 288.
Competition continues today, starting at 7 a.m.
JUNIOR GOLF REUNION
A reunion golf tournament for all former Hawai'i junior golfers is March 24 at the Honolulu Country Club with a noon shotgun start. Entry fee is $125 per player for the three-person team. The format is bestball on the front nine and a scramble on the back nine. Players can sign up as a team. The field is limited to the first 150 players.
