TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"My Name is Earl," 8 p.m., NBC. Hints of mismatched romance give this episode some neat twists. A college professor (Christine Taylor) sees Earl as a fascinating study in sociology when he shows up to return a stolen laptop and explains his list. He likes the attention. But he keeps forgetting his next project — rebuilding a bus stop for old people. Karma will make him pay for this. It's a sharp, funny episode.

OF NOTE

"Survivor," 7 p.m., CBS. It turns out the opening gimmick — splitting into four teams — was temporary. After seeing everyone in action for a week, two people are allowed to choose their teammates one at a time, playground-style.

"Four Kings," 7:30 p.m., NBC. Ben is writing a magazine story investigating a condo conversion project that's run by Jason.

"Under the Tuscan Sun" (2003), 8 p.m., ABC Family. An ordinary story is transformed by gorgeous settings and a subtly moving performance by Diane Lane as an American who buys a home in Tuscany. Don't expect plot surprises. Do expect a character and plot you can sink into.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. A murder victim is the daughter of Grissom's old acquaintance, Lady Heather.

"The Office," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Michael goes to corporate headquarters with his supervisor. Back at the office, people celebrate Valentine's Day in a grade-school way.

"ER," 8:59 p.m., NBC. The husband of Dr. Clemente's girlfriend shows up and starts trouble.

"Without a Trace," 9 p.m., CBS. A woman disappears, shortly after an argument with a man at an art show.
