TENNIS
LIM PICKS CLAREMONT
Punahou senior Michael Lim, last year's state high school tennis champion, has committed to Claremont McKenna College.
The Stags were ranked 11th in Division III last season. Their most valuable player was Seabury Hall graduate Kyle Ellison, one of two seniors on this year's team.
Lim's brother, Robbie, was the state champion in 2002 and 2003 and now plays at Dartmouth. Michael visited that Ivy League school and Georgetown, before deciding on the Southern California school.
"I felt more at home at Claremont," Lim said. "I didn't really care if I played D-I tennis. I wanted to get a good education and go to the best school possible."
He plans to major in business.
"I still want to be competitive or I wouldn't have gone to a ranked program," Lim said. "And playing D-III tennis will give me a chance to focus more on classes. They don't travel as much."
