TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. After resting for a few weeks, this show is back with a typically superb episode. A suburban super mom (Julie Warner) races between responsibilities. Then she has tremors, crashes her car, and then has a stroke. The wildly mismatched symptoms seem to indicate the 34-year-old woman is hiding something. Dr. House retains his cynicism, despite an odd tendency to be almost happy. He's reviving his romance with his former love (Sela Ward) who is now married. The romance story line seems forced at times, however, the medical one is filled with great twists and turns. In the "House" style, a deeply tragic tale is laced with sharp humor.

OF NOTE

"Get This Party Started" debut, 5 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Following the recent trend for feel-good reality shows, this one hopes to spend each hour throwing a surprise party for a deserving soul. The opener involves the 21st birthday of Alexis Jones, who is in an impressive singing duo with her sister, Arin. They're likable people, meeting friends and family they haven't seen since Hurricane Katrina battered their home.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. Final night of auditions. Tonight the judges visit Las Vegas. Tomorrow we'll see the Hollywood rounds begin.

"Gilmore Girls," 7 p.m., WB. Last week, the school newspaper staff revolted against the bossy Paris. Tonight, we get the aftershocks. Last week, Lorelai and Rory revived the custom of Friday-night dinner with Lorelai's parents. That's more complicated now because they're supposed to bring Luke, her sometimes fiance.

"According to Jim," 7 and 8 p.m., ABC. Both episodes have Jim in disagreements with his wife. In the first, he doesn't like the birthday presents she's gotten him. In the second, they disagree on which one has met actor Erik Estrada.

"Rodney," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold, whose syndicated radio show helped propel star Rodney Carrington, guest-star on this episode. The story has Rodney being chosen to entertain the troops in Afghanistan.

"Scrubs," 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. Mandy Moore plays someone who might be J.D.'s perfect mate. In the first episode, Elliot coaches him on how to avoid ruining it. In the second, friends worry that he'll blow it, as usual.

"Frontline: Sex Slaves," 9 p.m., PBS. Sometimes using hidden cameras, this expose traces the international practice of selling women for sex.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. A stripper who was killed, it seems, was also a lawyer living a double life.

"Boston Legal," 9 p.m., ABC. Facing illness, Daniel Post (Michael J. Fox) has a mock funeral.

"Independent Lens: Negroes With Guns," 10 p.m., PBS. Here is a strong and emotional profile of Rob Williams, who preceded the black power movement when he insisted on arming himself and others in small-town North Carolina.
