Tonight's Data House/HHSAA Division I State Softball Championship final will be another West Side Story.

Defending champion Mililani (16-3) will face O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division rival Pearl City (16-3) for the title tonight at the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Stadium in a rematch of last Saturday's OIA third place game (won by Pearl City, 9-5). First pitch is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be televised live statewide on OC-16.

Sophomore Makani Duhaylonsod pitched a four-hitter and went 2 for 4 with and run-scoring single in the first inning last night to lead Mililani past Moanalua, 4-0.

Pearl City rallied from a 2-0 deficit with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to beat Mililani, 6-3.

Duhaylonsod, a 5-foot-10 right hander, threw 156 pitches in Thursday night's 3-2, 11-inning quarterfinal win over Baldwin.

"When I woke up this morning, my body was sore," Duhaylonsod said. "My arm was OK, but I stubbed my toe pitching (Thursday) and it was really sore. But once the game started, the blood got flowing and all my energy came back."

Duhaylonsod's first-inning single with one out scored Kim Goo, who had slammed a double into left-center field. The Trojans added two runs in the fourth on Tierra Cuba's double into the left field corner and made it 4-0 an inning later on a run-scoring single by Celina Garces.

That proved enough support for Duhaylonsod, who escaped a first-inning jam when Moanalua put runners on second and third with no outs, and did not allow another Menehune to reach third the rest of the game.

"If she was tired, she didn't let it affect her," Moanalua coach Mitch Matsumoto said. "We played the best we could play, but Mililani is just a solid team."

The Trojans also were thought to be a tired one, having played late into Wednesday night — after starting their first-round game at 9:15 p.m. — and coming back with Thursday's 11-inning, three-hour marathon. After the long drive back to Central O'ahu, they had to report to school bright and early each morning.

But Mililani coach Rose Antonio said she had confidence in her team's resiliency, despite Na Menehune's run of five victories in their last six games.

"Moanalua is a tough team and we didn't know a lot about them," Antonio said. "They're well-coached and Sarah Robinson is a great pitcher, but I knew we'd be all right."

The Chargers overcame a 2-0 deficit and took advantage of three errors in the fifth inning to score five runs and rally past the OIA West rival Hurricanes.

Kapolei (11-8) took a 1-0 lead on Champagne Paris' second-inning home run and went up 2-0 in the fourth on Ashlyn Ashby's run-scoring fielder's choice grounder.

But the Hurricanes unraveled in the fifth, committing three errors which Pearl City capitalized on with RBI singles from Marina Gusman-Brown, Kanani Numata and Sanoe Aina.

Another error in the sixth allowed Numata to score from first base and make it 6-2. Kapolei ended up with six errors overall.
