Chico State baseball sweeps HPU

Twenty-four hours after getting swept by Hawai'i Pacific, Cal State Chico returned the favor yesterday with 9-2 and 21-7 victories at Hans L'Orange Park.
Mark Gentry had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats (2-2) in the first game and Daniel Code had four hits and six RBIs in the second. Code, James McCarthy and Aaron Demuth homered.
Jherell Miller hit a two-run homer for the Sea Warriors (2-2) in the first game and added two hits and two RBIs in the nightcap.
Elsewhere, Gus Milner batted 4 for 4 and drove in three runs as Kansas beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 9-2, at Francis Wong Stadium.
Sean Land allowed four hits over five innings and teamed with four relievers for a six-hitter to lead the Jayhawks (2-0).
Mark Veneri and Dayne Ogawa each had two hits for Hilo (0-2).

Qualifying for the Hawai'i Pearl Open is Tuesday. A different date was reported in yesterday's Advertiser.
Qualifying starts at 7:30 a.m. at Pearl Country Club.
The Pearl Open begins Feb. 10.
RAPOZA SCORES FOR MPI
Shelysa Rapoza scored for Mid-Pacific in its 4-1 loss to Iolani Wednesday in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls soccer match. Rapoza's name was inadvertently omitted from yesterday's Advertiser.
