Coco Chanel loved pearls and wore them for every occasion, even when dressed in menswear-style pants. She wore them in earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Although she was known for adorning herself with numerous strings of pearls, she was also photographed wearing a single strand.
Through Wednesday, "Les Perles de Chanel," a collection touring the world, will be on view at the Chanel Waikiki Boutique, at 2116 Kalakaua Ave. The jewelry collection combines pearls with diamonds and gold. Among the inspirations are Chanel's favored camellias and starbursts.
The collection is open to the public during store hours.
ANTEPRIMA OPENS IN WAIKIKI
Anteprima, a line of hand-knit wire mesh bags designed in Japan and made in Milan, has just entered the Island market at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. It's the first Anteprima store in the United States. The bags are already a hot item throughout Asia, especially in Japan and Hong Kong, as well as in Italy and France.
In addition to making the bags available to a wider market, said Tak and Maki Munemura, the husband/wife team behind the joint venture with Anteprima, the bags positively sparkle when exposed to the clean air and sunshine of the Islands. Prices for the bags range from $300 to $700.
LEVI'S COMING TO ALA MOANA
In the denim era — when designer jean labels such as Lucky, Edun and Seven have cachet and three-figure price tags — the dungaree granddad is always re-inventing itself. Levi's, sticking rivets on denim since 1873, opens a Honolulu location in mid-January at Ala Moana Center. The 501 is dead — look for new lines such as Capital E, slim-fitting handmade jeans. The Slouch rides low in front, higher in back to avoid the unsightly muffin-top effect.
NOODLE & BOO ARRIVES
Neiman Marcus Ala Moana has just added Noodle & Boo, the ultra-luxe head-to-toe baby care line, to the product mix in the children's department. Created for newborns and toddlers with sensitive skin, the wholesome products have made their way from the nursery to the master bathroom as men and women take to the pleasant scent. The collection includes Extra Gentle Shampoo, Play-Day Sunscreen and Ultimate Cleansing Cloths. Prices range from $6 to $48.
