TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Rundown" (2003), 7 p.m., Fox. The feel-good holidays must be over now because tonight is stuffed with action films. This one has The Rock (alternately known as Dwayne Johnson) trying to leave his job with a loan shark and start a restaurant. First, there's one more assignment. He must retrieve the boss' son (Seann William Scott of "American Pie") from the Amazon jungle. In the process, he becomes a treasure-hunter. The result is directed by Peter Berg, the former actor ("Chicago Hope") who has gone on to lead the movie and TV versions of "Friday Night Lights." Partially filmed on O'ahu.

OF NOTE

Football, 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., ESPN. First is the Liberty Bowl, with Houston and South Carolina. Then comes the Champs Sports Bowl with Maryland and Purdue. Also at 8 p.m., viewers with the NFL Network can get Texas Tech and Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

"Braveheart" (1995), 5 p.m., Bravo. Here's the biggest of tonight's action movies, an Oscar-winner. Mel Gibson stars as 13th-century Scottish rebel William Wallace. He also directed, filling the screen with sweeping beauty.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. It's another all-rerun night for network dramas. This one gets personal for Melinda, as she keeps seeing images of her late grandmother. Meanwhile, a woman refuses to cross over until her twin is out of a psychiatric institution.

"Superman" (1978), 8 p.m., ABC Family and "Gothika" (2003), 6 p.m., AMC. Here are two more films for action night. One has Christopher Reeve as an earnest Superman; split into three sections, it's inconsistent, but has some grand moments. The other has Halle Berry suddenly waking up in a penitentiary and being told she's a killer.

"20/20," 8 p.m., ABC. This looks at some of the events that were captured on videotape. Add it to the previous show ("America's Funniest Home Videos") and you have an entire night of low-budget, caught-on-tape programming.

"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. A murder suspect says a drug kingpin hired him. Annabeth wants to get them without cutting a deal.

"Las Vegas," 8 p.m., NBC. Delinda finally chooses Danny over Derek. There isn't much time to celebrate; her dad Ed (James Caan) is attacked by a gunman.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. When a building explodes, a bystander is killed. That sparks a difficult attempt to expand the charge from arson to murder.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. When a meth lab explodes, a federal agent is killed but the drug boss escapes. Worse, he's believed to be a child pornographer.
