Seven Hawai'i golfers are playing in the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship, starting today at Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz. The 54-hole tournament, which has a field of 112, is for females between the ages of 13 and 23.
Kimberly Kim (Hilo), Kristina Merkle (Honolulu) and Elyse Okada (Kahului) are competing in the 15-16 division. Christine Kim (Hilo) and Stephanie Kono (Honolulu) are in 17-18, and Mari Chun (Pearl City) and Kelly Nakashima (Wailuku) will play in the oldest (19-23) division.
Kono is fifth in the latest American Junior Golf Association/Polo Rankings. Kim is 15th and Honolulu's Ayaka Okamoto 18th. Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa is 40th on the boys list.
