UH's Mackey swims to WAC honor

Hawai'i's Nicole Mackey has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.
Mackey, a senior from Newport Beach, Calif. (Newport Harbor High), won both of her individual events against nationally ranked Northwestern on Dec. 19 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex on the University of Hawai'i campus.
She placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.57, then followed it up by capturing the 100-yard backstroke in 56.09 seconds. For both events, Mackey was about a half-second off her top times this season.
