Airport parking fills fast during holidays

The state Department of Transportation reminds travelers that airports are very busy through New Year's Day.
Despite plans for additional parking at all state airports, passengers are advised to have someone drop them off at the airport because of the increased travel. Listed below are overflow parking plans for each airport:
HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Honolulu Airport users are encouraged to arrive at least an extra 30 to 45 minutes earlier than usual, to give themselves adequate time to find parking and check in with their airline.
Travelers are also encouraged to use the valet parking service at discounted rates for parking of two consecutive days or more. From Tuesday through Jan. 1 the valet rate will be $10 each day for two consecutive days or more of airport parking, the same daily cost as regular parking. Valet parking for one day only will remain at $20 a day.
KAHULUI AIRPORT
This year's plan is to offer additional airport parking in a nearby lot with shuttle service starting Thursday. When the regular parking lots are full, signs will be posted and airport security will direct traffic to the overflow lots. The charge is $5 per day for the overflow lot. The parking shuttle will run from Thursday to Dec. 27, and then from Dec. 29 to January 3, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The shuttle bus will pick up and drop off at the same locations at the overflow lot and airport terminal.
KONA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Overflow parking this year will be along U'u Street, as well as a designated south ramp graded area off U'u Street. The Pao'o Street lot will be re-opened from Dec. 24 through the New Year and beyond. When the parking lots are full, signs will be posted and airport security will direct traffic to the overflow lots.
HILO AIRPORT
Overflow parking this holiday season will be in the grass lots on both ends of the regular parking lot fronting the airport terminal. When the parking lots are full, signs will be posted and security will direct traffic to the overflow lots.
LIHU'E AIRPORT
Alternative parking will be provided in the gravel lots, which is on both ends of the regular airport parking lot. When the normal parking lots are full, signs will be posted and airport security will direct traffic to the overflow lots.
