TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Lost Room," 7 p.m., Sci Fi Channel; concludes tomorrow and Wednesday. Joe Miller ("Six Feet Under's" Peter Krause) is your standard TV hero. He's strong, silent, straight-forward, a cop, sharing custody of his daughter. Then he arrests a guy with a key, and everything changes. Put the key in any lock and it takes you into a motel room. Step out and you're somewhere else. This seems fun and goofy for a minute; then Miller finds the dangers. "Lost Room" is a terrific, six-hour mini-series, beautifully written and sharply directed.

"The Year Without a Santa Claus," 8 p.m., NBC. In its early moments this movie offers hints of sharp satire, with Chris Kattan as a scheming elf. Then it settles into an average tale. Santa (John Goodman) is moping, so his elves (Ethan Suplee, Eddie Griffin) seek a true believer. The story — which became a 1974 animated classic — is stretched badly, but it has its moments of fun.

OF NOTE

"Mary Poppins" (1964, 7 p.m., ABC Family) and "The Wizard of Oz" (1939, 6 p.m., TNT). It's a night of excess, with two family classics overlapping. Warm up your DVR.

"Wedding Wars," 7 p.m., A&E. With nimble touches, this show tries to mold a light comedy and a serious issue: The governor's daughter (Bonnie Somerville) and speech writer (Eric Dane) are marrying, with the groom's brother (John Stamos) planning the wedding. But the brother is gay, and when the governor (James Brolin) speaks out against gay marriage a strike ensues. Stamos has a great comedy touch; Dane and Brolin don't. "Wedding Wars" tries to do a lot, with moderate success.

"House," 7 and 8 p.m., Fox. Here's a terrific two-part rerun in one burst. An ailment spreads to Dr. Foreman (Omar Epps). His colleagues scramble for a solution. There's powerful drama here, superbly played by Epps and by Charles Dutton, as his dad.

"A Christmas Wedding," 7 p.m., Lifetime. Yes, this is a crowded night for new movies about weddings. This one reverses the usual pattern: It's the bride (Sarah Paulson), who has business and transportation problems; she tries desperately to get home while the groom (Eric Mabius of "Ugly Betty") fidgets. You kind of guess she might make it, but it's still fun to watch this mildly entertaining film.

"The Class," 7:30 p.m., CBS. At their anniversary party, Nicole is startled by Yonk's gift.

"Two and a Half Men," 8 p.m., CBS. Charlie's plans for a sexy Christmas Eve are detoured.

"The New Adventures of Old Christine," 8:30 p.m., CBS. Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character here — like Larry David's in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" — drives an energy-conscious hybrid car. Tonight, fate forces her into a gas-guzzler.

"What About Brian," 9 p.m., ABC. Brian has a falling-out with his dad (William Devane).
