For the first time, four University of Hawai'i players earned all-West Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Perennial All-American Kanoe Kamana'o was among the 12 honored yesterday. Teammates Jamie Houston, Sarah Mason and Juliana Sanders earned their first all-region honor. Kamana'o, Mason and Sanders are all from Hawai'i.

The 96 all-region players — 12 each from eight regions — are eligible for All-America honors.

Kamana'o, a senior setter and three-time All-American, is the only player this year who is a four-time all-region performer. The three-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year ranks 10th in the country with 13.49 assists per game, along with 0.97 blocks and 2.43 digs. She needs 40 assists in tomorrow's NCAA Regional against USC to move into eighth on the NCAA career list.

Houston ranks sixth in the country at 5.46 kills per game. The sophomore hitter from Alabama is also averaging 2.55 digs and 0.71 blocks.

Mason, a senior hitter, ranks 17th nationally with 0.59 aces per game. She is averaging 4.04 kills, 3.02 digs and 0.75 blocks.

Sanders, a junior middle blocker, leads UH with a .365 hitting percentage. She is averaging 2.32 kills and 1.43 blocks.
