Kamehameha's Kanani Herring burst upon the Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls volleyball scene last season after sitting out her freshman year as a transfer.

This season, there was no sneaking up on anyone, but she dominated just the same and was named ILH DI Player of the Year in a recent vote of coaches.

Herring, a 5-foot-10 junior, was especially strong in the final week of the regular season, after Kamehameha, Punahou and 'Iolani finished the first round tied with 13-1 records.

That forced a three-way playoff, and she had a match-high 23 kills in a 15-25, 25-18, 25-22 victory over Punahou and 12 kills, three blocks and one ace to help the Warriors defeat 'Iolani, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, for the ILH regular-season title.

She later led Kamehameha to a second straight overall crown.

Herring is joined on the ILH DI all-star first team by two Warriors teammates — junior middle blocker Bekah Torres and senior setter Kealohilani Kea — and three players from Punahou: senior outside hitters Liz Ka'aihue and Larissa Nordyke and junior libero Sydney Yogi.

'Iolani senior setter Kapua Kamana'o and sophomore middle blocker Chelsea Hardin round out the first team.

Herring, Kea, Ka'aihue and Kamana'o are repeat first-team selections.

Kamehameha's Chris Blake and Punahou's Jim Iams were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
