TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

Football, all day. Without switching channels much, viewers can witness three conference championships. At 8 a.m. on ABC, it's the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech faces Wake Forest. At 1 p.m. on CBS, it's the SEC. Florida faces Arkansas. And at 3 p.m. on ABC (overlapping a little with CBS), the Big 12 has Oklahoma and Nebraska. That last one is a traditional rivalry — something you'll find a lot of today. The Army-Navy game airs 9:30 a.m. on CBS; Southern California faces UCLA at 11:30 a.m. on ABC.

"School of Rock," 6 p.m., TBS. Jack Black is at his best when his friend Mike White does the writing. That was the case for "Orange County" and "Nacho Libre" and this film. White's words offer a mixture of intelligence and innocence; Black adds a sense of glee. This time, Black is a rock musician who grabs a call intended for his roommate (White). Suddenly, he's a substitute teacher. Director Richard Linklater molds that into a good-hearted film that pleases kids or grown-ups.

OF NOTE

"Santa Claus: The Movie," 11:30 a.m., ABC Family. The first third of this film is beautifully crafted as a good-hearted layman (David Huddleston) becomes the new Santa. After that "Santa Clause" tries satire with so-so results.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," 3:30 p.m., and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," 7 p.m., both ABC Family. Here are the first two pieces of the epic Potter story. The third one airs at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday.

"Shark," 8 p.m., CBS. Three college football players have been charged with rape. Things are complicated because the victim had a relationship with one of the defendants. Meanwhile, Stark's brainy daughter is accused of plagiarism.

"The Christmas Card," 9 p.m., Hallmark Channel. Struck by the hometown warmth of a woman's Christmas card, a soldier on leave (John Newton) visits the town. He promptly saves her dad's life, stays at their house and works at the mill - almost as if a screenwriter were maneuvering this. "Christmas Card" has pretty settings and nice people; some viewers might forgive its stiffly contrived feeling.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Three teenage murder victims have identical tattoos. The investigation leads to a prostitution ring.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Matthew Fox of "Lost " hosts with music by Tenacious D. That's the duo that provides an alter ego for Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Catch this after "School of Rock" and you have a Jack Black evening.
