Moped driver in Aug. 19 crash dies

A man who was critically injured on his moped on Aug. 19 when an SUV's tire blew out on Fort Weaver Road died Saturday, and the medical examiner's office identified him yesterday as Loreto Jose, 58, of 'Ewa Beach.
Jose was heading south on Fort Weaver Road at 3 a.m. alongside a 2006 Mazda Tribute driven by a 31-year-old man when the SUV's tire blew and the vehicle turned into the moped, police said.
Jose was taken to The Queen's Medical Center for head and body injuries. Doctors discovered he had suffered brain injuries and his condition was upgraded to critical. The accident occurred during clear weather and where there were overhead street lights, police said. Alcohol and speed were not factors.
MAN PULLED FROM BAY IS IDENTIFIED
The medical examiner's office has identified the man who died Saturday of an apparent drowning at Hanauma Bay as Tetsuo Inaba, 73, of Japan.
Lifeguards pulled Inaba out of the water about 11:50 a.m. and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The exact cause of death is undetermined, pending autopsy results.
ATTACKER OF KAUA'I TOURIST SOUGHT
Kaua'i police are seeking the public's help in identifying the man who beat and robbed a tourist early Saturday morning outside the Nawiliwili Tavern.
According to police, the 36-year-old man was confronted by several men outside the tavern at about 1:30 a.m. One of the men struck the visitor, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. The man took the victim's wallet, police said.
The victim, who was unconscious for about five minutes, is recuperating at Wilcox Hospital.

MOTORIST HELD IN ATTEMPTED MURDER
A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly drove his vehicle at and struck another man following an argument near Ala Moana Center.
Police said the driver fled the scene but was arrested at the intersection of Kona and Kona Iki streets at 6:30 a.m. He was booked for attempted second-degree murder.
The injured man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
