Korean film fest offers spicy dramas, comedies

"My Boss, My Teacher" is the sequel to the 2001 comedy "My Boss, My Hero." It premieres here tonight.

Graduated from K-dramas to K-cinema? You can catch seven new South Korean films — four of them getting their U.S. premieres — at the Hawaii International Film Festival's three-day K-fest2 starting today at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theatres. All films are in Korean, with English subtitles.

  • "Barefoot Ki-bong" (2006, 100 minutes). Directed by Kwon Soo-kyung.

    6:30 p.m. today, noon Sunday

    The townspeople consider the shoeless Ki-bong a fool, but their attitude changes when he trains hard for a mini marathon — the prize money would allow him to buy his beloved mother a special gift. U.S. premiere.

  • "My Boss, My Teacher" (2006, 124 minutes). Directed by Kim Dong-won.

    A sequel to the 2001 hit comedy "My Boss, My Hero." Doo-sik, now a college senior, is a student teacher of ethics by day and a mob thug by night. Hawai'i premiere.

    A ballet class becomes the focal point for high school delinquents and an entire community. Hawai'i premiere.

  • "You Are My Sunshine" (2005, 123 minutes). Directed by Park Jin-pyo.

    A simple country fellow falls instantly for a lovely woman who isn't all she seems. Hawai'i premiere.
