Representatives of both sides in contract talks between the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa and its unionized workers said they were encouraged by progress made during bargaining last week.
The two sides met Friday and Saturday, and said they plan to meet again next week.
"These two days of negotiation sessions have been the most productive since bargaining started in June, and are a testament to what can come if the parties work together in the spirit of cooperation," said Gary Seibert, area vice president and managing director for Hilton Hawaii.
Eric Gill, financial secretary of UNITE HERE Local 5, said the union welcomed the hotel's plan to reduce the workload for housekeepers, calling it "significant movement."
DEADLINE MISSED BY CYANOTECH
Cyanotech Corp. for the second time missed a deadline for filing its financial results with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The Big Island microalgae producer on Aug. 9 requested a filing extension until Aug. 21 so that the company could review the way it reported some of its previous costs. Company officials said yesterday they would not be able to meet the new deadline.
"The accounting review is continuing due to the technical nature of the previously announced accounting matter related to the company's historical treatment of certain inventory-related costs," the company said.
The company did not say when it expected to file the quarterly report.
