UH WOMEN SIXTH

The University of Hawai'i women's team shot a combined 30-over 318 yesterday and remained in sixth place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Morgan Hill, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine have a two-day total of 632. San Jose State leads the seven-team field with 616 entering today's final round.

UH's Xyra Suyetsugu shot her second-straight 4-over 76 yesterday to move into a tie for fifth at 152. Boise State's Mandi Hedberg leads with 70—147.

A FIRST FOR CAMPBELL

Campbell High senior Brittany Austin yesterday said she will sign a letter of intent today to play golf at Idaho State.

Austin is the first girl from Campbell to be offered a scholarship in golf, Sabers coach Laurie Katagiri-Hoshino said.

"I owe everything to my dad (Lew Austin)," said Austin, who shot a 76 in the first round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association championships yesterday. "He sent e-mails to coaches around the whole nation, putting in my stats. He sent tons of e-mails and it was just a matter of who would catch the bait."

Austin is 10th in the OIA with a 78.25 stroke average, Katagiri-Hoshino said.

"She is very good about knowing what she needs to practice on and she has the willingness to practice," Katagiri-Hoshino said. "She's done it for the last four years and before that in junior golf. She's not afraid to work at her game."
