Man, 47, dies while swimming

A 47-year-old man died yesterday after he was pulled unconscious from waters off the Waimanalo Beach Park.

Police said the man was swimming with family members and friends when they noticed he was unresponsive. The man was brought to shore about 1:30 p.m. and taken by ambulance to Castle Medical Center, where he died.




HALE'IWA

2 CHARGED IN BRIDGE INCIDENT

A man and woman accused of ramming a stolen pickup truck into a police vehicle Tuesday in Hale'iwa were charged last night in connection with the incident.

Dempsey D. Macaraeg, 21, was charged with first-degree criminal property damage, auto theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Macaraeg was being held last night in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police also charged April R. Ringor, 19, with auto theft, promotion of a dangerous drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ringor's bail was set at $15,000.

Another man, 20, was released yesterday pending further investigation.

Police arrested the trio after stopping a truck, which had been reported stolen, on the Anahulu Stream bridge. When the truck reversed into a police officer's SUV, the officer shot out one of its tires.

NO PARKING AT BLAISDELL

No daily parking or City and County of Honolulu parking will be allowed at the Blaisdell Center on Monday.

Signage is posted at all parking gates. The city advises people to make plans for alternative parking on that day.




'EWA BEACH

BOY ALLEGEDLY HIT HIS TEACHER

Police on Tuesday arrested a 12-year-old 'Ewa Beach boy at an alternative state Department of Education school in Pearl City after the boy allegedly assaulted a 39-year-old teacher about 8:55 a.m.

Police were told that the boy was disrupting a class and the teacher told him to stop. The boy kicked the teacher in the shin, and then removed his shoe and threw it at the teacher, who was walking away, striking him in the head, police were told.

The teacher said that when he went back to try to talk with the student about his behavior, the boy spit in his face.




KAUA'I

GIRL, 14, MISSING SINCE FRIDAY

Kaua'i police were looking for Kyscha Ollila, 14, a Kapa'a girl missing from her home since Friday.

Kyscha is 5 feet 3 and 115 pounds, with long black hair and brown eyes. Police said she may be with a boyfriend who lives in Kilauea. Anyone with information can call Kaua'i police dispatch at 241-1711 or the police missing persons unit at 241-1696.


Correction: A 47-year-old man died Wednesday while swimming at Waimanalo Beach Park. The park was incorrectly named in a previous version of this story.
