Hawai'i-Hilo sweeps HPU in baseball

Matthew Haasenritter hit a two-run double in a four-run sixth inning as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 4-3, to complete a doubleheader sweep at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Michael Higa hit a two-run double in a three-run third inning to lift the Vulcans to a 4-2 victory in the first game.
UH-Hilo is 13-27. HPU is 22-14.
In the second game, Haasenritter's double tied the game at 2. Jimmy Crider and Robby Mowers followed with RBI singles.
In the seventh and final inning, the Sea Warriors closed to 4-3 on an RBI single by Grandon Costa, but left a runner at second base when the final out was recorded.
SOFTBALL
HILO WOMEN WIN, TOO
Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 4-3 and 6-1, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at UHH Softball Field in Hilo.
UH-Hilo is 21-14 overall and 4-0 in the PacWest. HPU is 17-16 and 2-4.
In the first game, Natalie Fujimoto drove in Chelsea Osborne with the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh.
UH-Hilo's Miki Asamura went 3 for 3, including two RBIs in the first game.

Sailing teams finish second, sixth: The Hawai'i coed sailing team finished second and the women's team finished sixth yesterday in the 31-team, 20-race St. Francis Regatta at San Francisco. Southern California won the regatta with a team-low 99 points. UH coed had 109 points, including 54 points from the A division team of Eric Oppen, Bryan Lake, Meredith Adams and Caitlin Hill and 55 from the B division team of Joey Pasquali and Becky Mabardy. The Rainbow Wahine scored 185 points (Tinja Anderson-Mitterling and Cassie Harris in the A division scored 97. Shandy Buckley and Crystal Bronte in the B division had 88).
Rainbow Wahine golfers 12th: The University of Hawai'i women finished 12th out of 15 teams at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate at Stanford, Calif., yesterday. Southern California won the two-day tournament with a 20-over-par 588 after a final round of 290. California was second (291-590), followed by Stanford (290-592). The Rainbow Wahine shot 308 for a 53-over 621. Irene Cho of Southern California shot a 4-under 67 yesterday to win by six strokes with a 5-under 137. Dale Gammie led the Rainbow Wahine with a 74—150 for a tie for 16th.
