Bus accident victim identified

The city medical examiner's office yesterday identified a pedestrian who died Wednesday after being struck by a city bus as William Chock See Jr., 83.
The man, who was in a crosswalk, was struck by the bus after it turned left onto Kamehameha IV Road from North School Street at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
He hit his head on the pavement and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday.
Eight pedestrians have been killed on O'ahu roads this year.

TIPS SOUGHT IN KAPA'AU BREAK-INS
North Kohala police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person or people responsible for two burglaries at Kamehameha Park in Kapa'au Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Someone broke windows leading to the offices of Hisaoka Gym and the park's swimming pool and sprayed the interior with a fire extinguisher. The break-ins took place sometime between 11:15 p.m. Tuesday and 6:25 a.m. Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call officer Dale Ku or officer Levon Stevens at the North Kohala police station at (808) 889-6540.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime-Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTED FOR MONARCH FEST
During the annual Merrie Monarch hula competition next week, police will enforce a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Kalanikoa Street in Hilo.
From noon April 19 through 1 a.m. April 23, traffic will flow in the Puna, or southerly, direction on Kalanikoa Street between Kuawa and Pi'ilani streets.
Left turns from Kalanikoa Street onto Pi'ilani Street will be prohibited. Right turns will be allowed.
Regular two-way traffic will remain in effect on Manono, Kuawa and Pi'ilani streets.

MAN, WOMAN LOST ON HIKE RESCUED
Firefighters yesterday brought two lost hikers out from the Maunawili Trail.
Fire Department spokesman Capt. Gary Lum said a man, 37, and woman, 36, used a cell phone to call for help at 1:36 p.m. Fire rescue personnel brought them out at 2:20 p.m. No injuries were reported.
