A 44-year-old motorcycle rider suffered possible spinal cord injuries yesterday in a dirt bike accident near Waikane Valley Road, Emergency Medical Services officials said yesterday.
EMS crews were called at 5:10 p.m. and transported the man to Waiahole Beach Park, where he was taken by a Hawai'i Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopter crew to The Queen's Medical Center, said EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
Yesterday's accident was the first time that National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk crews have been pressed into service since the Army's 25th Infantry Division last month stopped flying Military Assistance to Safety and Traffic service.
DANCE TROUPE CANCELS SHOW
IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre has canceled its free Kailua Beach performance that was scheduled for tonight because of pollution in the water and sand, the group said.
The performance was intended to promote the group's premiere of "Electric Blue" at the Hawai'i Theatre, scheduled for Earth Day, April 21-23. The performance focuses on environmental themes.
