Rainbows lose first in WAC softball

Sarah Seagraves pitched a five-hitter and Haley Johnston drove in the game's only run in the fourth inning as New Mexico State handed Hawai'i its first Western Athletic Conference loss this season, 1-0, last night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Seagraves walked three and struck out four.
Hawai'i's Justine Smethurst allowed an unearned run, walked three and struck out eight.
The Aggies (22-13, 5-2) stranded eight runners, while the Rainbows (21-14, 5-1) left 11 on base.
TENNIS
UH SENIOR SCEATS IS WAC PLAYER OF WEEK
Hawai'i senior Ryan Sceats was named Western Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week.
Sceats won all six singles and doubles matches last week to help the Rainbow Warriors, then ranked No. 59, improve their winning streak to five.
Last week, Sceats moved up a spot, to No. 2, for the first time since his sophomore year. He leads UH with a 19-5 record in singles and is 26-3 over the last two years in dual matches.
Sceats, from Perth, Australia, and partner Jarrod Diepraam are 13-6 in doubles at No. 1.
The UH men close their regular season at home, with matches Monday (4 p.m.) against Hawai'i Pacific and Tuesday (3 p.m.) against Azusa Pacific. The WAC Championships start April 21.
The Rainbow Wahine play HPU this morning (10 a.m.) and Brigham Young-Hawai'i Tuesday. Their WAC Championships start April 20.
ARENA FOOTBALL
GESSER THROWS 4 TD PASSES IN 64-52 LOSS
Former Saint Louis School and Washington State quarterback Jason Gesser threw four touchdown passes, but the expansion Utah Blaze lost to the Arizona Rattlers, 64-52, last night in an Arena Football League game at Salt Lake City.
Sherdrick Bonner threw for 345 yards and eight TDs, including seven to Randy Gatewood to lead the Rattlers (6-5).
The Blaze fell to 3-8.
WRESTLING
IKEHARA FOURTH IN 11-UNDER DIVISION
Ikea Ikehara of Mililani took fourth place at 110 pounds in the 11-and-under division of the Cliff Keen Reno Worlds wrestling tournament last weekend in Reno, Nev.
Ikehara was one of five youth wrestlers from Hawai'i in the tournament, which is one of the nation's largest. He wrestles for the Leeward Cobras and is coached by Monte Hokoana and Patrick Hokoana.
