Cody Aquino pitched a five-hit shutout to lift 'Aiea to a 2-0 victory over Wai'anae in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division baseball game yesterday.

The game, which was postponed by rain last week, was played at Wai'anae yesterday because the original site — Central O'ahu Regional Park — was deemed unplayable.

Aquino struck out seven in handing Wai'anae its first loss of the season.

Reid Nakamura hit a home run in the fifth for Na Ali'i.

The Tigers (1-1) were awarded the victory when Kaimuki (0-2) was down to eight players and forced to forfeit yesterday's makeup game, according to Bulldogs coach Duke Chinen. Chinen said the team was short of players because of academic probation, a family trip and work commitments.

RADFORD PLAYERS TO MISSISSIPPI COLLEGES

Radford High School football players Ryan Burciaga, Jamie Whitworth and Trevor Maldon yesterday accepted college football scholarships.

Burciaga, a quarterback, and Whitworth, a kicker, will attend Mississippi Valley State.

Maldon, a defensive back, will attend Lambuth in Jackson, Miss.

The three had planned to attend Nevada-Las Vegas as non-scholarship players.

"I was happy when all of (the offers) came through," Radford coach Fred Salanoa said. "They truly deserve this. They really worked hard."

CHEERLEADING

MILILANI, BALDWIN CAPTURE U.S. TITLES

Mililani and Baldwin high schools won titles in the National Cheerleaders Association U.S. Championship at Knott's Berry Farm in California on March 25.

Mililani won the small varsity division and Baldwin won the coed division. Radford placed second in that same category.

Radford's junior varsity placed third in its division.

The NCA is one of two cheerleading associations that hold national-caliber championships.
