Freshman midfielder Genelle Ives scored one goal and assisted on two as host Santa Barbara defeated the University of Hawai'i, 3-1, in a non-conference women's soccer match last night.
The Gauchos (4-3-0) scored all of their goals in the first half and went on to win their third match in a row.
Adria Campbell helped UH (2-4-1) avoid a shutout by scoring on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. A UCSB defender tripped Campbell near the top of the box, resulting in the penalty try.
The Rainbow Wahine managed just three shots in the first half, although two hit the crossbar — Kelly McCloskey's in the 12th minute and Aimee Watanabe's in the 18th minute.
The Gauchos scored in the 15th minute when Darci Qwartz one-timed a cross from the left flank by Ives. They teamed again five minutes later with Qwartz feeding Ives in the middle of the box. Ives chest-trapped the ball then sent a right-footer that hit the left post before skidding into the goal.
Santa Barbara made it 3-0 in the 34th minute when Katie Smith scored an open-net goal from the right side, following a collision by Ives and Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper Kori Lu.
