TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"ReAct Now: Music and Relief," 5 p.m. on VH1 and 8 p.m., on MTV. In an ambitious effort, rock, pop, country and hip-hop forces will combine for this concert benefiting those affected by Hurricane Katrina. The plan calls for live music from New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Nashville.
Details are still being worked out, but expected performers include the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney and the Neville Brothers. Viewers will be urged to make contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund at www.redcross.org or at (800) HELPNOW. The cable channels' parent company, Viacom, donated $1 million.
OF NOTE
"McLeod's Daughters" season opener, 4 and 7 p.m., WE (Women's Entertainment). This well-made Australian series is taking a risky detour with mixed results. It's set on a ranch co-owned by two long-separated sisters. It's a semi-shaky season opener to what's still an interesting show.
"The Man With the Screaming Brain," 6 and 10 p.m., Sci Fi Channel. Bruce Campbell has given wonderful performances in some offbeat, tongue-in-cheek films. Here, however, he's also the writer and co-director. He never finds the right line between a film that's amiably goofy and one that's just plain dumb. Stacy Keach and Ted Raimi do yeoman's work as a mad scientist and his goofy assistant. Campbell plays the lead as a cold-hearted businessman with an unfortunate brain transplant.
"The Most Outrageous Moments on Live TV," 7 p.m., NBC. Clips involve Margaret Cho, Jamie Lee Curtis and more.
"Live From New York: The First 5 Years of 'Saturday Night Live,'" 8 p.m., NBC. This isn't your usual show, filled with clips and compliments. Instead, it's a detailed look at a complex era, when chaos and genius often co-existed.
"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Jude Law hosts, with Ashlee Simpson, rather infamously, as the musical guest.
