When it comes to passing, it's all in the feet.

Iolani southpaw Kiran Kepo'o's nifty footwork allowed him to complete 18 of 24 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns to help Iolani outlast Castle, 42-27, yesterday in non-league action at Aloha Stadium.

Majority of his damage was done in one half and one series in the third quarter. His footwork allowed him move about smoothly in the pocket to set up perfect touch passes. He completed his first eight passes of the game after Castle took a 7-0 lead, scoring easily after one run and four consecutive pass completions by Bryce Kalauoka'aea, the last a 19-yard TD to Moku Bruhn.

"He worked hard in the summer on his feet, lifting weights, doing a lot of different footwork drills," Iolani quarterbacks coach Joel Lane said of Kepo'o. "It's paid off. He's in better position to throw the ball. Staying alive (in the pocket) basically."

Kepo'o said the quarterbacks work on their dropbacks to help their footwork.

"We work on quickness," he said. "Get back quick. The faster you get back, the harder for the defense to touch you. When you get back fast, it's easier to see the field."

After the Knights (1-2) took the early lead, the Raiders (3-0) scored on their next five possessions with Kepo'o throwing three TDs — 12 yards to Kekai Kealoha, and 53 and 45 yards to Travis Nishioka — and running back Mike Hirokawa scoring on runs of 45 and 25 yards — all in the first quarter — to make it 35-7.

Hirokawa had a field day, rushing for 128 yards on 11 carries. He had 106 of those yards in the first quarter.

Kalauoka'aea's second of four TD passes, a 19-yarder to Blaine Kobashigawa in the second quarter made it 35-13. But Kepo'o responded with a 21-yard TD strike to Kealoha to make it 42-13 at the half.

Kepo'o was replaced by sophomore backup Ryan Dung, who took over on Iolani's second series in the third quarter and completed 5 of 9 for 31 yards.

Kalauoka'aea also had a good passing game, completing 24 of 45 for 333 yards with four TD passes.

Iolani will test its game in Tacoma, Wash., next Saturday against Capital at the Tacoma Dome.

SAINT LOUIS 59, FARRINGTON 0: Five lost fumbles by the Governors accounted for five touchdowns for the Crusaders at Aloha Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders' offense recycled three other fumbles into TDs.

Quarterback Cameron Higgins passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more.
