Saint Louis scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and made a last-minute defensive stand to hold off stubborn Damien, 20-12, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu football game last night at Kaiser High field.

The Crusaders (5-4 overall and 4-2 in ILH Division I) extended their winning streak over the Monarchs (4-5 and 2-4 in Division II) to 40 games. They have not lost to Damien since 1982.

But that streak was in jeopardy last night.

Behind the running of Kealoha Pilares, who rushed for 150 yards, Damien led 12-7 going into the fourth period.

But Saint Louis completed a 73-yard, eight-play drive, capped by Lene Alaelua's 3-yard run with 11:22 left for a 13-12 lead.

The drive was fueled by Cameron Higgins passes of 27 yards to Shane Ahlo Jr. and 26 yards to Preston Lynch.

With less than three minutes to play, Damien lost the ball on downs on its 11. Saint Louis made it 20-12 on an 11-yard touchdown run by Cody Wells, who had 131 yards on 16 carries.

Damien refused to yield as Pilares returned the kickoff 68 yards to the Saint Louis 24.

But on fourth-and-8 from the 22, a pass with 1:39 left was batted down by Saint Louis defensive back Stephen Lei, who also had an interception.

Aaron Nichols caught eight passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Kamehameha clinched a tie for first place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I race with a 27-7 victory over Pac-Five yesterday at Kaiser Stadium.

The Warriors (8-2 overall, 5-1 ILH) have one game remaining in the regular season next week against Saint Louis. The Wolf Pack fell to 2-8, 0-6.

Kahaku Ka'ai completed 10 of 15 passes for 136 yards, and touchdown tosses of 7 yards to Justin Saniatan in the first quarter and 33 yards to Nichols in the third quarter.

Kamehameha held Pac-Five to 74 yards in offense, led by Kaipo Sarkissian with three sacks and a fumble recovery.
