State plans hearings on boating fees

The state Department of Land and Natural Resource will hold a series of public hearings to review proposed fee increases for recreational mooring rates at state boating facilities, offshore mooring rates, mooring without permission and annual user fees for state boating ramps.

The rules, as now proposed, will increase recreational mooring fees an average of 25 percent to 40 percent, depending on the harbor.

Public hearings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on:

  • O'ahu, tomorrow at Jefferson Elementary School and Kapalama Elementary School; Wednesday at King Intermediate School, Wai'anae District Park and Hale'iwa Surf Center.

  • Maui, Thursday at King Kamehameha III School.

  • Kaua'i, Thursday at Chiefess Kamakahelei School.

  • Big Island, Thursday at the State Office Building in Hilo and Kealakehe High School.
