  • Hawaiian Airlines has named MATT BERNIER senior director of labor relations. He will administer contracts covering wages and benefits for the airline's six unionized labor groups. Bernier is a former manager of labor relations for America West Airlines, in Phoenix, where he oversaw six union contracts for 7,000 employees.

  • Lesley L. Kaneshiro has been promoted to vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Honolulu-based commuter airline Island Air. She joined Island Air a year ago as vice president controller, and holds a master's degree in business from Chaminade University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

  • Group 70 International has named Cami Kloster and Kim Evans as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of its nonprofit philanthropic arm. Kloster has been involved in managing and planning environmental programs in Honolulu and San Jose, Calif. She has been involved in several nonprofit organizations that care for the homeless; community groups that focus on community development issues; and with Malama Hawaii, which promotes awareness of environmental issues. Evans, a Kamehameha graduate, is an eight-year veteran of urban and environmental planning experience, and community service leadership. She was instrumental in forming the Group 70s Foundation Fund, which supports community organizations. Founded in 1971, Group 70 International is one of the largest planning, architecture and interior design firms in the state.

  • Ka'anapali Golf Courses has named CALVIN "CAL" POOUAHI course superintendent, overseeing both North and South courses. He is former Ka'anapali assistant superintendent, and before that, grounds foreman, and foreman in the mechanic shop.

  • Marriott International Inc. has named CONNIE FLATTERY area director of sales and marketing for the Pacific islands and Japan, based in Honolulu. She served in the same position for Marriott and Renaissance Resorts, for the Caribbean and Mexico, based in New Jersey. In 1981, Flattery was part of the opening management team for the Maui Marriott Resort, the first Marriott property in the Islands. The Pacific islands and Japan region, which includes Hawai'i and Guam, boasts 22 properties and four lodging brands: JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance Hotels & Resorts and Courtyard by Marriott.

  • University of Hawai'i alumnus SHAWN CHING is among five new board members of the UH Alumni Association. Ching graduated from UH with a bachelor of arts degree in 1991; a master's degree in 1993, and law degree in 2003. Also added to the now 30-member volunteer board are MARILYN CRISTOFORI, executive director, Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education (MBA, 1998); DENNIS OSHIRO, UH Federal Credit Union, business development director; JIM DONOVAN, president, M2C Inc. (BA, 1983; MBA, 1996); and DEREK MUKAI, Community Planning and Engineering Inc. project manager (BS, 1989).

  • BRIAN NAGAMINE, has been named manager of the Kuakini Medical Center Volunteer Services Department, which includes recruitment, training and placement of Kuakini's 600 active volunteers. Nagamine is also enrolled in the Volunteer Management Program at the University of Hawai'i's Windward campus.

  • RUSSELL MIYASHIRO has been named Hawai'i mortgage residential sales manager for HomeStreet Bank. The 28-year veteran of the mortgage industry was, before joining HomeStreet, manager of the residential loan division at a local financial services company. He is a board member of the Hawai'i Association of Mortgage Brokers and the Mortgage Bankers Association of Hawai'i.
