'Picture Bride,' 'Batman Begins' screen at Sunset on the Beach

"Picture Bride" by Hawai'i-born filmmaker Kayo Hatta, is tonight's feature on Waikiki's big screen.

This weekend's Sunset on the Beach events are in conjunction with the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival, which continues through Oct. 30.

A HIFF trailer will be shown each night before the features. Tonight's tribute to Honolulu-born director Kayo Hatta, who died in July, features her new short film "Fishbowl," based on "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers" by local author Lois-Ann Yamanaka; and her acclaimed "Picture Bride" from 1994.

Tomorrow's movie is "Batman Begins," starring Christian Bale as the caped one, with Michael Caine as Alfred the devoted butler.

Sunset on the Beach events begin at 4 p.m. at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki with food booths and entertainment. Films hit the screen after the sun goes down, about 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. 923-1094.
