Wendell Kop shot a final-round even-par 71 yesterday to capture his sixth Oahu Country Club Senior Men's Invitational.

Kop, competing in the super senior division (65 and older), had three birdies and three bogeys in his final round for a 36-hole total of 5-over 147.

Russ McGarry (71—150) won the senior division (55 to 64) while defending champion George Yamamoto (74—150) finished second among the super seniors.

UH'S GAMMIE SHOOTS 69

Dale Gammie shot the best round of the day, a 3-under-par 69, but the University of Hawai'i women's golf team slipped one notch to finish 13th at the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate tournament in Las Cruces, N.M.

Gammie, a junior from Pukalani, Maui, moved from a 19th-place tie to finish tied for fifth with a 54-hole total of 3-over 219 in the 108-player field.

Mikaela Backstedt of New Mexico beat Jessica Potter of San Francisco in a playoff to win medallist honors after both finished at 3-under 213.

Idaho's Kelly Nakashima, a Baldwin High alum, shot 75—221 to finish tied for eighth.

Missouri won the championship of the 21-school field with a 27-over 891 total. Hawai'i finished with a 61-over 925.

COUNCIL WINS ON MAUI

Clif Council shot a 6-over-par 78 Monday at the Dunes at Maui Lani course to win his first Maui Tour event.

Kirk Nelson and Jim Olsen shared second with 79s.
