A man who shot himself after a 10-hour standoff with police at a hotel near the airport Oct. 2 was arrested yesterday in connection with that incident.
The 51-year-old man had been hospitalized since he shot himself in the head to end the standoff. He was arrested yesterday afternoon after being discharged from the hospital.
The man was booked on two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, a firearms offense, promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held last night pending charges.
During the standoff, police said a man fired two shots from a .38-caliber handgun out the window of his 11th-floor room at the Best Western Plaza Hotel on Nimitz Highway. Police shut down a nearby stretch of H-1 Freeway and the hotel was evacuated.
The man shot himself about 4:30 a.m. after officers forced their way into his room and repeatedly ordered him to surrender, police said.
Police said the man also is under investigation in connection with a fire that destroyed his 'Ewa home Sept. 28. Fire investigators said the blaze was deliberately set.
