Utah State beats UH in WAC soccer, 2-1

Advertiser Staff

With leading scorer Natasha Kai sitting out because of a neck injury, the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak snapped yesterday in Logan, Utah.

Charity Weston scored two goals to lead Utah State to a 2-1 victory in a Western Athletic Conference match.

The Aggies improved to 5-7-3 overall and 2-1 in the WAC. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 6-7-2, 3-1.

UH tied the score at 1 in the 26th minute off a counter attack. Gabina Bohlman eluded a defender at midfield and raced down the middle of the field unchallenged before dropping a pass to Adria Campbell in the box. Campbell's first two shots were rejected, but she converted on her third try.

Weston scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute off a corner kick. It was the first goal of the season surrendered in five appearances by Mahie Atay, who started the second half. It also ended Atay's school-record string of 533 straight shutout minutes dating to last year.

Hawai'i will play at Utah Valley State today in a non-conference match. There was no word yesterday whether Kai, who suffered the injury Thursday in a match against Idaho, will be available.
