Miss Hawai'i 1997, ERIKA KAUFFMAN, has been named director of public relations for Halekulani Corp., owner of the Halekulani and Waikiki Park hotels. The Big Island native has local and international experience, study and travel in 38 countries,, and university scholarships in Hawai'i, Geneva and Budapest. She was, most recently, an account executive for Honolulu's Becker Communications Inc. In her new job, she will direct all corporate and community media relations and oversee promotions and special events.
Alexander & Baldwin Inc. has named MICHELE S. LOUDERMILK associate general counsel in the firm's legal department. She comes to A&B from Cades Schutte LLP, where she was a partner in the finance and real estate department.
DAVID CHING has been appointed risk consultant in the Atlas Insurance Agency Inc. Risk Consulting Services Department. He will be responsible for providing safety consultation and training for Atlas' construction and general industry clientele.
VERONICA "RONNIE" CLAVERAN has been named food and beverage director of the 173-room Makaha Resort & Golf Club. The more than 20-year veteran of local and Mainland hotel and golf club, food and beverage operations, will oversee the Kaiona full-service restaurant, Pumana Lounge, full-service catering and banquet rooms; golf course snack bar, beverage cart, and related sales and promotions. Most recently, Claveran was with the North Shore's Turtle Bay Resort.
LIZ CAMAT has joined Goodwill Industries of Hawaii Inc. as its development manager. She is responsible for coordinating projects, campaigns and activities promoting and supporting Goodwill's long-term fundraising program. Before joining Goodwill, Camat was the director of sales and marketing for Girl Scouts of Hawaii.
JENNIFER HIGA has joined Helber Hastert & Fee, Planners Inc. as office manager, where she will oversee the administrative, financial and human resource operations of the firm.
Jamie Jasina has joined Peter Vincent & Associates as a senior interior designer. She previously was senior designer at Lysy Interior Designs in Wilmington, Del. Also, Jennifer Merwick has joined PVA as an administrative assistant and graphic designer.
Edson G.H. Lau has joined Trade West Inc., dba Nani Makana Distributors, as sales manager. He will be responsible for key account management, new business development and strategic sales management of all Nani Makana territories in Hawai'i, Guam, Saipan and the U.S. Also, LYNN TOMIMOTO has been promoted to vice president. Her key responsibilities will continue to be product development and marketing for all of Trade West's divisions and brands.
