Kai hurt in UH's soccer win

The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine won a soccer road match, but may have lost forward Natasha Kai to an injury yesterday.
Kai scored two goals, but suffered a sprained neck late in Hawai'i's 3-0 Western Athletic Conference victory over Louisiana Tech at Ruston, La.
Kai, UH's leading scorer this season with 11 goals, collided with LaTech's Chrissy Haisler with approximately 10 minutes left. Kai was carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital for examination. She was released a few hours later.
Her status for tomorrow's WAC match at Utah State is unknown.
Koren Takeyama scored in the 16th minute and Kai added goals at 39:19 and 55:08 as Hawai'i improved to 6-6-2 overall and 3-0 in the WAC. LaTech fell to 7-5, 0-2.
GOLF
RAINBOW MEN IN 12TH
The University of Hawai'i men's team shot an aggregate 299—587 and is in 12th place after two rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
Rainbow Kyle Waters shot 77—143 and was tied for 18th place. Travis Toyama carded 73—146 and was tied for 29th.
San Diego State shot 284—567 for a three-stroke lead over the University of Denver (287—570).
Denver's James Love is the individual leader at 68—138. Southern Utah's Eric Nilsson is second at 68—139.
TENNIS
BYUH WOMEN TRIUMPH
Brigham Young Hawai'i's Julia Ustyuzhanina and Tetyana Bula defeated Luisa Cowper and Julia Stupak of Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.), 4-6, 7-6 (6), (10-8), yesterday to capture the NCAA II Championship at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships at Fort Myers, Fla.
The Seasiders duo will continue play today against the Junior College Tournament champion, Hiroko Nishikawa and Amanda Yogus of Hillsborough JC (Fla.).
Ustyuzhanina also won her singles semifinal match, beating Victoria Weltz of Lynn (Fla.), 6-0, 6-3, to advance to today's D-II title match against Suzanna Cavalcante of West Florida.
In the men's tournament, also at Fort Myers, BYUH's Junyoung Kim rallied past Peter Grimsey of Rockhurst (Mo.), 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5), and will play for fifth place in the consolation bracket.
VOLLEYBALL
UH'S SHOJI HONORED
University of Hawai'i women's volleyball coach Dave Shoji was named to the NCAA 25th Anniversary Team, honoring the best coach and players in the past quarter century of the NCAA Tournament.
Shoji coached three NCAA championship teams, two runners-up and three others that advanced to the semifinals.
Former Rainbow Wahine Deitre Collins, who played on two national championship teams, was also voted to the team. Collins was a three-time AVCA All-American and National Athlete of the Year in 1982-83.
She is currently the coach at Cornell.
The other players named to the team were Elaina Oden of Pacific, Logan Tom and Kerri Walsh of Stanford, Danielle Scott of Long Beach State and Natalie Williams of UCLA.
NO. 4 HAWAI'I PACIFIC SWEEPS PAST UH-HILO
Barbara Martin had 16 kills and Paula Koikopoulos added 14 as No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific swept past Hawai'i-Hilo, 30-25, 30-18, 30-17 last night in a Pacific West Conference match at St. Andrew's Priory gym.
The Sea Warriors won their seventh straight match to improve to 16-1 overall. The Vulcans fell to 12-6.
The two teams play again tonight at St. Andrew's. First serve is 7:30.
WRESTLING
CLINICS AT MOANALUA
The Hawai'i USA Amateur Wrestling Association and USA Wrestling clinic is scheduled for Nov. 10 to 13 at Moanalua High.
United States national team coach Terry Steiner and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann will conduct the clinic, which is open to all genders and ages. Cost is $75.
